Computer Literacy Assessment

Computer-based learning is an essential component of a Stevenson University education. All students entering the University are required to successfully complete IS-134: MS Windows and Office Applications, unless specifically exempted. Students who meet one or more of the following criteria are exempted from IS 134:

  • Achieve a passing score on the Computer Literacy Assessment
  • Achieve a grade of “C” or better in an equivalent college level course at another institution
  • Film, Video and Theatre majors
  • Visual Communication Design majors

The Computer Literacy Assessment is comprised of 100 questions designed to test student's knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. The test is performance based and administered on a computer. Students have a maximum of 1½ hours to complete the assessment. Selecting a link below will provide students with a specific list of skills tested for each software package during the Computer Literacy Assessment.

To receive credit for IS 134, students must achieve an 80% overall on the exam with a minimum of at least a 70% on each of four sections: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Windows. Students who pass will receive 3 credits for IS 134, thus fulfilling the requirement.

The Microsoft Office Support website may be useful to students who would like to prepare for the exam. This website links to each of the Microsoft Office software websites which include a variety of training materials.

Newly accepted Villa Julie students and current students who have not already been tested are eligible for the exam. REGISTER FOR THE EXAM >>
