The Office of Academic Support Services provides services and resources to students, faculty and staff that will strengthen academic performance, enhance student satisfaction, and improve student retention. The Office of Academic Support Services is located on the Stevenson, MD Campus and is responsible for the following programs and services:
Academic Advising at Stevenson University is a free support service available to all degree-seeking students. Academic Advisors can assist with a wide-range of academic matters from selecting a major to planning for graduate school. The Advising Office is located in the Office of Academic Support Services in AC 220.
The Academic Link “links” students to a wide array of support services and innovative programs to help students achieve academic success. While primarily The Link provides free tutoring, the center also offers SI (Supplemental Instruction), weekly review sessions for various courses facilitated by a student leader and PASS (Partnerships And Student Success), a mentoring program to ease the first year student’s transition to college. The Academic Link is located on the second floor of Knott Hall.
The First-Year Experience Office assists first-year students in making a smooth transition into Stevenson University. The mission of the office is to help students achieve academic success while also helping to ensure that students are satisfied with their choice to attend Stevenson University. The major programs coordinated by this office are Summer Orientation, the Summer Bridge Program and First-Year Seminar. In addition, the office works with students on an individual basis to help them identify and address academic issues, concerns or challenges. The First-Year Experience Office is located in the Office of Academic Support Services in AC 220.
The Second-Year Experience Office provides programs, services, and resources to help first-time, second-year students be successful in their academic pursuit towards a degree from Stevenson University. The office provides a "one-stop shop" for questions to be answered, recognize sophomore success throughout the year, provide academic support, and help students become aware of the various services and programs available to second-year students during the academic year. The Second-Year Experience Office is located in the Office of Academic Support Services in AC 220.
The Transfer Student Experience Office provides opportunities for successful academic and social acclimation for students transferring to Stevenson University. Transfer students will find and obtain answers to their questions through the "one-stop shop" experience, attain academic support when struggling with classes, and become aware of the various services and programs available to them as they transition to SU. The Transfer Student Experience Office is located in the Office of Academic Support Services in AC 220.
The CORE program (Creating Opportunities for Residence Excellence), co-sponsored by the Office of Academic Support Services and the Office of Residence Life, provides academic support for residential students whose cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0. The CORE program provides structure and guidance for students to take ownership over their learning, find their niche on campus, and explore career path options. Each CORE student is assigned a CORE Coach who works with the student to create an academic plan based on her or his needs. Students will be notified if they are required to participate in the CORE program.
The Developmental Education Program helps students achieve academic success by building skill level proficiencies for life-long learning. The program focuses on reading and mathematics, the skills needed for success in college courses. The Director of Developmental Education is located on the second floor of Knott Hall.
