Arigato
by Effie Gereny
March 29 - June 26, 2004

Like many artists, Effie Gereny's work has been heavily influenced by her travels particularly to California, Greece and most recently Japan. It is in her abstract work that these memories of light, shape, texture and color most often appear. Her work is also informed by her student years at the Maryland Institute College of Art and her years of work and study with her friend and teacher Gladys Goldstein.

Living and painting in Baltimore for the past twenty-five years, Effie has tried not to imitate images in nature but rather to recreate them as abstractions. She has a unique personal vision, which combines a sense of exploration with a balance of delicacy and power.

Effie's work has been exhibited throughout the country and abroad including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum for Contemporary Arts and the International Center in Kawasaki Japan. Her work appears in numerous public and private collections from Baltimore to Beverly Hills to Tokyo including the Mass Mutual Insurance Company, MCI Telecommunications, Corp, The Ryland Group, Manor Hill Corporation and the International Monetary Fund. In 1999 Effie and her work became part of the Arttalks video series at The University of Maryland.
