Support & Resources for CORE Participants
The CORE (Creating Opportunities for Resident Excellence) Program, co-sponsored by Academic Support Services and Residence Life, is designed to assist residents whose GPAs fall short of the minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA required to live in housing. When a student's cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0, the CORE program allows the student a one semester grace period to improve and meet the GPA requirement.
Am I required to participate in the CORE Program?
Stevenson University is committed to students' academic success; therefore maintaining a 2.0 cumulative GPA is required to live in housing. Any resident whose cumulative GPA falls below a 2.0 is required to participate in the CORE Program in order to retain their housing privilege. If at the end of the semester you still have a sub-2.0 cumulative GPA, you will be ineligible for housing in the residence halls. It is in your best interest to make serious efforts to improve your grades using this program.

How does the Academic Link work?
The Academic Link provides a quiet environment to study away from the noise and distraction of your home. The Academic Link has student monitors, who are present to check you in/out, ensure that noise is kept to a minimum, and answer any questions you may have. Tutors are present to help students and are available to work one-on-one with students to help with specific academic struggles.
Who will know that I am in the CORE Program?
The CORE Coaches, the academic advising team, your instructors, and your parents will know about your placement in CORE. Please be advised that you may be asked to sign a FERPA release so that University personnel can discuss your progress with your parents.
Will the CORE Program help me?
Yes. Will it fix your grades? No. The only person who can do that is you, the student. The CORE coaches will give you every resource SU can offer, but ultimately the responsibility for your grades is on your shoulders.
Does this program replace my academic advisor?
No, we encourage you to meet regularly with your advisor for matters of registration, adding/dropping classes, or inquiries related to your major.
