Because tuition revenues only cover about 72 percent of what it costs Stevenson to educate each student, an annual fundraising effort takes place in order to raise necessary operating funds needed each year. This is the Annual Fund Campaign.

Where does my gift go?
Because this fund provides support for every department on campus, you can see your gift used all around campus: new books in the library, student scholarships, professional development opportunities for the faculty, computer software upgrades, athletic equipment, and program enhancements. In many ways, this fund is the most important support that Stevenson receives because it touches every area of the University.
When does the Annual Fund begin and when does it end each year?
The Annual Fund follows the school year and the University’s fiscal year, rather than the calendar year – July 1 - June 30. So, for example, you may receive a letter in September, the start of the school year, asking for your support. You make a gift in April, at the end of the school year. The gift will go towards that year’s Annual Fund even though the fundraising efforts spanned two calendar years.
I cannot afford a big donation this year. Will my gift still make a difference?
Absolutely! Institutions that can boast a higher Annual Fund percentage of participation from alumni, parents, and faculty and staff, regardless of the size of the individual gifts, are better positioned to receive larger amounts of financial support from external organizations. The percentage of participation from alumni is viewed as a “report card” of satisfaction with the University. This statistic is also the only measure of alumni satisfaction used by US News & World Report in its annual college ranking report. A higher ranking for SU equals a higher value of the degree earned. And, imagine the impact that an additional 1,000 alumni gifts of $50 each would make to the Annual Fund each year! Additional student club activities, equipment for an athletic team, and more scholarship funds are just a few of the many ways that these gifts can be used.
