“And now it is my pleasure to announce the grand total of gifts raised for Inspiring Students, Building Careers: The Campaign for Villa Julie College. Ladies and gentlemen, with grateful appreciation for your tremendous generosity, I am delighted to announce that we have raised $15,022,736.”
These words were spoken by Campaign Co-Chair, Orsia Foudos Young, Esq. ’79, at the Campaign Launch on September 27, 2007, in the Rockland Center on the Owings Mills campus. The celebration marked the announcement of the campaign goal: $20 million – and provided an opportunity to express appreciation to the donors and benefactors whose generosity during the “quiet phase” of this comprehensive campaign has brought in about 75% of the overall goal.
The event was moderated by Jeff Salkin, News Anchor on Maryland Public Television. Remarks were also shared by Henry D. Felton, IV, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees; Charles E. “Ted” Herget, Jr., Honorary Campaign Chair and former Board Chair; Kevin J. Manning, Ph.D., President; and Amanda M. Bory ’09, current student, who shared her own experiences at VJC as a scholarship recipient. Hall of Famer and former Baltimore Oriole Ironman Cal Ripken, Jr., was a special guest for the evening and offered inspiring remarks about the importance of vision and teamwork in reaching a goal.
